Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: “Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease”?
To this Arthur Ashe replied: The world over — 5 million children start playing tennis, 50 thousand learn to play tennis, 5 thousand learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals, When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD “Why me?”. And today in pain I should not be asking GOD “Why me?”

Good one he must have reached a stage were he must have started accepting the facts of life. It is very difficult to accept something bad and we people even cry for a fever and speak against the nature for being rude.

A true spirit form a great player and great human indeed. There are certain things in our life we can’t control. We have to except them. Thanks for sharing this inspirational piece. Once we start taking things into stride our lives would certainly change for the better. The only reason why we are sad at times is only because of the fact that we have not learnt to get over the difficult phases that life has to offer.
